Scholarships

The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association's mission is to provide art and art experiences for our community. As part of that mission, the Art Center strives to accelerate the classes, exhibits, events, festivals and much, much more. The Art Center works closely with the area school that wish to pursue artistic endeavors like painting, writing, music...

We have been privileged through memorial gifts to be able to provide several scholarship opportunities for our youth. We encourage the community to assist us in continuing these opportunities for our youth through donations and/or memorial gifts. The Art Center currently has three scholarship opportunities. Donations to these funds can be made throughout the year. You only have to specify the particular fund on your check. If you wish to set up a new scholarship memorial fund, please contact Sarah Verner, Executive Director at 706-632-2144.

Alice Hunt Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997, this fund honors the late Alice Hunt, who was an art instructor for many years before retiring to the Blue Ridge area.  Alice was a well-known watercolor artist whose love of flowers and nature were reflected in her work.  Money from this college fund is awarded to graduating seniors at Fannin County High School, who are interested in pursing their education in the arts.  If you wish to contribute to this fund, please notate  your preference on your check.  These funds are dependent on donations and memorial gifts.

Dorothy and Richard Low Evans’ Scholarship Fund

The Richard Low Evans’  family established this fund  to promote art education for children in the visual arts.  Richard Low Evans was well known for his watercolors of local scenes and landmarks and was a long-time member of the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association.  The support of the Art Center continued in 2007, when the remaining Evans’ works were donated to the Art Center.  In appreciation of the Evans’ family’s continued support, the Richard Low Evans Gallery was established.  In 2008, upon the death of Richard’s wife, Dorothy, the scholarship fund was renamed, as the Dorothy & Richard Low Evans’ Scholarship Fund.  Memorial gifts have been a mainstay of this fund, as has been the sale of Evans’ work.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association General Scholarship Fund

Donation and memorial gifts allow the Art Center to provide partial and full scholarships for children, who wish to take any classes – music, dance or art – that are offered at the Art Center.
